Home comfort

We keep it at a constant 21.5 degrees downstairs and 20.5 degrees upstairs. We don’t set it back much at night time.

The installation process

It took two days for installation. We had it installed in the first week of December and it took a while to get it up to heat - that involved some extra time. I did need one new radiator - I changed that one myself after living with my heat pump for a year. I also needed a larger, more compatible tank. And I already had underfloor heating.

Costs and efficiency

Generally the bills are lower - by around a third. I was on a regular tariff and then switched to an EV tariff and moved the heating and charging to the night.

Placement, sound, and planning

The heat pump is located on the side of the house at the front, over the garage extension. We chose the location because it was near enough to the old gas boiler making it easier to connect but also it was out of the way. The neighbours have been curious. One neighbour can see it from their living room. It makes a little noise - like a background hum. You don’t hear it unless it is off and then you notice it is gone. A little like a fridge.
